Anatomic Study - Heart with serous atrophy

The illustration depicts serous atrophy of the epicardial fat.
Healthy hearts normally have abundant white or yellow epicardial fat. During anorexia, starvation or cachexia this fat is consumed to mantain the energy balance. This causes the heart to have reduced fat deposits and the remaining fat has a yellowish and gelatinous appearance.
Thank you!
